Within 3 days I thought I saw a bit of improvement, and now after a week we are seeing much clearer water. We are so excited because we haven't seen our pond look like this since last year when it was new. - V. Jarvi |

Dear Friend, Pond Algae can strike any size pond at any time. Let's face it, there is absolutely nothing that can ruin your experience around a serene and relaxing pond or fountain any more than that green, slimy gunk that floats on the water's surface or coats everything in it's path. Not only is algae a hideous eyesore, but in nearly every case, there's an obnoxious smell that goes with it! Nothing serene and relaxing here! Algae Stinks...In More Ways Than OneString algae or green water, at one time or another can affect anyone who owns a pond, fountain, water garden, stock tank, bird bath or fish tank. In fact, if you're reading this page, I'll even bet your dealing with an algae problem right now! Hey, I sympathize, because I used to deal with the same issue myself. At best it's often an annoyance that's unpleasant to the senses. At worst, it can lead to increased costs or effort in labor to deal with it, or it can shorten the working lifespan of irrigation and fountain pumps. All in all, most of us want to simply get rid of it in the safest and most effective way possible. That's why this website was created.
Up to now, the most common way to deal with an algae problem was with the use of chemical products like copper sulphate or other types of algaecides. Now, I don't know about you, but I'm not all that comfortable with putting a toxic heavy metal algaecide in my pond or water garden! Can this possibly be safe for fish, plants, wildlife or people in the long run?
Using Algaecides Alone Can Actually Another problem with chemicals like this is, they actually can make the problem worse. You see, studies show that algae blooms when there's an excess of organic nutrients in the water. These nutrients come from decomposing materials that are found at the bottom of the pond. Materials like...well there's no better way to say it, fecal material from waterfowl and fish, rotting food sources, grass clippings...and of all things...dead algae. That's right, algae that's killed off by chemicals dies and sinks to the bottom of the pond, adding to the organic sludge layer. This "chemical quick fix" in turn fosters another round of algael growth, creating an endless cycle of treatment. It treats the symptoms but never really gets to the root cause. In the short term, the pond looks free of any problems, but is it really clean and clear? With all the risks associated with using chemicals, it's easy to see that they are not the best alternative when it comes to pond health. In recent years there have been some new developments in the war on algae that are much safer for the environment. Many of them however, come with some limitations. From high intensity ultra violet lighting (expensive) to barley straw (an inconsistent and long process that ultimately adds more organic waste) to aeration (often only a partial or spatial cure), there's a lot to choose from. What's missing from all of these approaches is a highly targeted attack on the root cause of algae growth. In other words, when you get rid of the organic wastes and excessive nutrients they produce, you get rid of the algae! Getting To The Root Cause Of Pond Algea Growth A few years ago, experts in enzyme research came up with the idea of using natural bacterial enzymes to zero in on the organic waste materials. Through trial and error, they found enzymes that would literally consume the organic materials and in turn, the water became cleaner, clearer, and algae free! With most products that are currently available, this would mean adding the product to the water by hand each and every day.
